RED BULL STORM CHASE

Heimplanet, the German start-up from Hamburg known for The Cave tent, is an official partner of the Red Bull Storm Chase 2012.

HEIMPLANET DEVELOPS THE WORLD'S WINDIEST TENT

In collaboration with statisticians and engineers Heimplanet developed a tent that can withstand wind speeds of up to 180 km/h and offers the film and production crew enough space to store their equipment (diameter 4.5 mtr.), thus exactly meeting the expectations that the Austrian beverage producer had of the development.

The first steps towards cooperation between Heimplanet and Red Bull were taken in autumn 2011. The Red Bull Storm Chase is the most difficult windsurfing competition on the planet, separating the boys from the men. 10 surfers from all over the world compete for the crown of storm windsurfing. The system of the competition is pretty simple to understand: There are 10 surfers in the first mission. 6 of them will advance to the second round and only 4 will compete for the crown in round no. 3.

To guarantee stormy conditions for the surfers, the Storm Chase will be extremely flexible. During the 4-month waiting period, everyone, surfers and crew, will be on standby to travel to one of the 7 spots around the world that have been selected as competition locations. The first round will be called as soon as 10 Beaufort (54 knots / 100 km/h) is measured at one of the spots.

Winds so strong that water and sand fly. But the jurors and the film team can feel safe, because the tent developed by Heimplanet developed MAVERICKS tent makes it possible to cover the event. The MAVERICKS media tent from Heimplanet is characterised by its easy handling, durability and design. MAVERICKS is inspired by The Cave and uses air to create a strong frame.

The IDG (Inflatable Diamond Grid) consists of 10 double-layered air bars constructed according to the geodesic principle. Two air circuits can be inflated with a normal hand pump and then divided into ten independent chambers. The now patented IDG is the key to the stability and strength of this unique tent. The tent works as one unit. It only needs to be rolled out and inflated, with no assembly required to ensure smooth operation.
