HEADACHE FILM

You know that feeling when you crave a refreshing drink or ice cream on a hot day because of the burning sun, then finally get one and take a big gulp or bite, but realise at the same moment that it was way too much?

HEADACHE FILM

Everything around you seems to freeze for a moment and your head feels like it's turning inside out, but there's not much you can do about it.

That's basically the feeling we get every time we dive a wave in the freezing cold water we use for surfing most of the year. From October to May, the water temperature is below 10°C. In winter, it can reach as low as 0.5°C. Out of the water it gets seven degrees colder. The right equipment like a really thick wetsuit, good booties, gloves and a warm hood are essential and make it bearable. Not only bearable. It makes surfing a special pleasure.

That's basically the feeling we get every time we dive a wave in the freezing cold water we use for surfing most of the year. From October to May, the water temperature is below 10°C. In winter, it can be as low as 0.5°C. Out of the water it gets much colder still. The right equipment like a really thick wetsuit, good booties, gloves and a warm hood are essential and make it bearable. Not only bearable. It makes surfing a special pleasure.

The whole outfit with the neoprene makes you feel like a little seal. You're on your own, sharing the waves with just a handful of good friends and making the most of the conditions. The worst part is actually putting on and taking off the wetsuit in the freezing cold. The body is wet, the air temperature is already at 0°C and the cold wind chills the naked body. But we love it! That's why we are producing the first cold-water surf film called "Headache", which refers to the headache you get from eating ice cream.

So far, we have already been on the road with a group of German cold-water surfers in Iceland and Scotland. The next destinations are Denmark, Sweden and our own playgrounds around the North Sea and Baltic Sea in Germany. The core team consists of Jonas Bronnert, Finn Springborn, Alex Tesch, Christian Spicker, Lucas Günther, Dan Petermann, Felix Gänsicke and Julian Braun. But there will be many more German surfers.

Filming with a German surf crew is certainly not as easy as with a group of professional surfers. We have to film several days and several spots to get at least a small amount of really good action shots. But you see a progression in each surfer's performance from session to session. Everyone pushes each other. We always have a lot of fun! For more details: http://headache.roughseas.de
